What we'd actually do

· Saiho-ji (Moss Temple) — by reservation only, the meditative pre-walk is mandatory
· Arashiyama bamboo grove at sunrise — empty for forty minutes after 6 AM
· Fushimi Inari before 7 AM — climb halfway, descend before the crowds
· Gion at twilight — geiko on their evening commute, never photographed
